Lunch at Sonoma Mission Inn

Every once in a while I get to live like the other half. Today, at lunch, was one of those days. We were invited to experience the food from Sonoma Mission Inn’s catering division. They do more tons of events (on and off property) every year, many of which are weddings. Let me tell you, I’ve been to a lot of weddings and I’ve never had food like this. The food was 4 star restaurant quality and some of the best food I’ve had in months. Let’s get started! Please forgive any fuzzy photos – they were taken with my camera phone.

First course was a myriad of appetizers….

Clockwise, from top: Ahi tuna and caviar in a cucumber cup, brioche baked quail eggs and finally risotto balls with a basil aioli. Yum, yum, yum.

Next came the salad courses….

On the left is a baby green salad with poached pears and a brie crouton. On the right, a butter lettuce salad with mandarin oranges and shredded fennel.

Then the first main courses. Goat cheese flan with an olive tapenade crostini….

And….heirloom tomato risotto. This was my absolute favorite dish. I have to figure out how to make this one.

Then the two main courses….

On the right, beef short ribs with spinach and fried tomatoes. And on the left (my favorite main dish), lamb loin and potato ragout.

And no meal is complete without dessert, of course!

Chocolate souffle.

And apple tartin….

I don’t know about you, but this isn’t the kind of food I’ve had at weddings and corporate events. I sure hope the next time I go to an event Sonoma Mission Inn is catering it. My hat is off to Richard and Bruno (the chefs). They are amazing. I felt like a King. Then I had to go back to work.

Cheers!
